Who we are
Our Organisation is called Time for the Homeless, Charity number 1188443.
We run soup kitchens throughout the week in Medway & Maidstone, Kent, where we cater for usually an average per day of 50 to 80 homeless, vulnerable, those in sheltered accommodation or are in need of our help. At these we also offer clean clothes, sleeping bags & tents, food parcels, sanitary products & toiletries, first aid, advice & sign posting to other organisations and charities we work closely with, be it homeless, mental health or addiction. These are all vital services, heavily relied on by our users due to lack of trust or knowledge of the help available. We also offer a 24hr emergency hotline for those in need.
The running and delivering of these services are done so on a completely voluntary basis, relying solely on public donations, as we currently receive no regular funding like other charities in the area, nor do we receive any regular direct food or monetary donations from any of the large supermarkets or corporations other than Kent Frozen Foods who give all they can. Despite this, we are out most nights and also get called upon to help other organisations when needed.
The outbreak of Covid 19 virus has stretched us to breaking point due to the substantially increased demands for our help & the vastly reduced donations we have received from the public in these trying times. Our team of volunteers had a discussion over the weekend if we should suspend the soup kitchens, but the majority voted to struggle on and do what we can, for however long possible. This is despite having to source and fund all PPE required during this epidemic, along with all food and other essential supplies.
We thank you all so much for the continued support & donations, without which our wonderful volunteers wouldn’t be able to offer these services & help we do.
